The Pennsylvania Sugar Refining Company, which once stood on the industrial shores of East Philadelphia at the end Shackamaxon Street, was the nation's last independent producer of sugar from the 1880's through 1984. The giant structures sat empty until being demolished in 1997, then in 2008, development began on that is today the SugarHouse Casino & Event Center.
Sitting on the banks of the Delaware River, the SugarHouse Casino & Event Center features soaring windows overlooking panoramic views of the riverfront and the Ben Franklin Bridge. When looking for a new venue to move our growing tasting, we knew we wanted a place with lots of open space and natural light; when we saw the Event Center at the SugarHouse Casino, it certainly filled that requirement, and then some.
The SugarHouse Casino & Event Center (1001 North Delaware Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19125) is conveniently just off I-95, so it's super easy to get to by car/Lyft/Uber/taxi/etc. Free parking (!!) in the attached parking garage to the left of the SugarHouse main entrance. Take the elevators to the second floor, then follow the signs to find us! Prefer your transportation a little more public? That works, too.
After the tasting, we encourage you to stick around and enjoy the casino (we're even including a $10 voucher for free play!!) and perhaps enjoy a meal at one of the casino's several dining options. Should you decide to stay the night (never a bad idea), there are a number of nearby hotels, and there are many excellent restaurants within a very quick cab/Lyft/Uber ride. We are happy to assist with recommendations, so just ask!
